Wimbledon 2021: Djokovic leads pack of favourites, Tsitsipas makes top 3

The Wimbledon 2021 tennis tournament starts in just 12 days, on June 28th. The odds of international betting sites are in favour of this year’s Roland Garros finalists, with ATP number one, Novak Djokovic heading the pack with an enormous handicap. Let’s look at the odds.

Serbian tennis big shot is priced at 1.85 (-118 as given by the USA sportsbooks), with chances of winning The Championships slightly above 50%. And everyone else on the long list of Wimbledon participants fall into the other 50% of probability, including Stefanos Tsitsipas, young Greek athlete and probable future ATP #1, who won 2 sets against Djokovic in Paris.

Tsitsipas odds of winning the next Grand Slam are 8.00 (+700), implied probability of 12.5%. The same as those of the Spaniard Rafa Nadal, and a little higher than those of Russian prospect Daniil Medvedev and beloved veteran Roger Federer — both go with odds of 9.00 (11.1%). Notably the top 5 contenders of the Wimbledon 2021 hold 85% chances of victory

Online bookmakers’ odds are not surprising, to say the least: Novak Djockovic won the last two Wimbledon tournaments in a row, except the 2020 edition, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus. One final was against South African Kevin Anderson (6-2, 6-2, 7-6) in 2018, the other — and much more epic — against Roger Federer (7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12) in 2019.

Overall, Djokovic should look forward to meeting either Tsitsipas or Nadal, and both will be highly motivated to take revenge for equally painful defeats at Roland Garros by the Serb.
